Why Visit Asheville

If you love to find waterfalls in western North Carolina, the Asheville area is the place for you! While there are hundreds of falls in our area, there are many near Asheville in the Blue Ridge Mountains - the most beautiful and easy to find and enjoy.

Many trails along the Blue Ridge Parkway lead to waterfalls, depending on the season and rainfall conditions. The Graveyard Fields Loop, found at Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 419, allows easy access to a number of waterfalls flowing from Yellowstone Prong. The trails at Graveyard Fields are well mapped, but can become slippery in wet conditions. Nearby Transylvania County is home to 250 amazing waterfalls including Triple Falls, Looking Glass Falls and Toxaway Falls. Check out the Pisgah Forest and you will find all the falls you need.  Plenty of hiking trails, too.

Biltmore Estate

BILTMORE HOUSE: Share the wonder of Biltmore House, the largest privately owned mansion in America, with a priceless collection of arts and antiques original to the Vanderbilt home. Since the house is a self-guided tour, pay the little extra for the audio companion tour as soon as you enter the house.

Excellent guided tours may be purchased to go "behind the scenes" like the Architect's Tour. See unrestored areas of the house, including the attic, and enjoy a panoramic look at Biltmore Estate’s grounds, gardens and the Blue Ridge Mountains while examining architectural, structural and technological details. Immerse yourself in history and details. The hour-long tours are offered daily. Prices ($17/person) are in addition to estate admission.

After exploring the house, stop at the Stable Courtyard for refreshments or a visit to several quaint shops (and one large souvenir shop). The Stable Café is great for sandwiches, burgers, and salads. Allow at least two hours for the self-guided house tour. Photography/video is not permitted inside.

Dowtown Adventure

Downtown Asheville is a rare place. Artists and street musicians converge with tourists and locals for a vibrancy rarely found in a city of this size. People sip cups of Joe at one of several locally-owned coffee shops, listen to live music at a local club. They go on art walks, winding their way through downtown's 30-plus galleries. Shoppers inspect unique boutique finds, or people simply enjoy fine cuisineand people-watching.

Asheville skipped the urban renewal process that stripped the character from many downtowns. Today, its rich architectural legacy with its mix of Art Deco, Beaux Arts and Neoclassical styles is the perfect backdrop to the city's edgy energy.

Music Scene

A progressive and collaborative arts community, Asheville's modern music scene melds old and new with surprising ease. Music permeates the city from the street musicians who serenade you downtown, to multi-generation bluegrass jam sessions, to a rock club (Orange Peel Social Aid and Pleasure Club) named one of the best in the country by Rolling Stone.

Guest Letter:  Dear Brea,...I also wanted to let you know your name came up repeatedly when my friends and I stayed in Asheville in May at a different cabin.  I knew it wouldn’t be as good as your cabins but I was still surprised at how much we missed all your comforts.  The cabin and view were nice but the kitchen (which is my domain on vacation) was woefully under stocked with cheap pans, dull knives and garage sale dishes.  They didn’t even have salt and pepper in the cabinet!  The doorknob fell off the second day and we had to buy a screwdriver to put it back together since there were no basic tools in the house.  We also missed your fluffy robes and silky sheets.  You have ruined us for other rentals!!!    I hope we can visit one of your cabins again soon.  Cheryl
